Look Out (here we go web 3.0)

So like it or not web 3.0 is coming faster than any body thought. what happened to web 2.0? Well it hasn’t gone anywhere it is still there but we are adding to it. So what is it? Web 3.0 is from my research (correct me if I am wrong) is basically the integration of small productive applications to the internet. in other words you will be getting all your applications from the web and using them on the web. Wikipedia has probably the best description of it.
So what does this mean for designers? A whole lot of new and exciting stuff to learn. I will give you one example that I came across the other day. Aviary web applications. They are a new company still beta testing their apps, but from what I can see this could change the whole design industry. They have almost 20 different graphic design and other media applications that all work seamlessly together. This could either be very bad or very good.
For one if this works out adobe wouldn’t be the only player anymore for vector and raster imaging. Which in my opinion isn’t a good thing. We finally got everything to work good together when Macromedia and Adobe merged and now it could be that all over again but with even more players. As you can tell, I like when everything works together and when I have fifteen different apps to learn because one designer likes this app and the other designer likes this one it is going to be a nightmare.
On the other hand though it could bring some very innovative software that we currently don’t have with Adobe. I am not saying Adobe hasn’t come up with a lot of great software, but competition is always a good thing for consumers. Not only could we get some Great new applications, But the price could be brought down significantly. That is a big plus, because right now it is really hard for student designers and many professional freelance designers to drop a grand or more on software.
In the end all we can say is things change. I do recommend going and checking out Aviary, you can sign up to beta test the several applications they are currently working on. Also check out their blog it gives you a better understanding of what all the application do.

web 3.0! I’ll ask again “what happened to 2.0,jeez it’s only been 2 years (i think)”.
I don’t know how many time is since web 2.0 but I’m excited to learn more
adobe wouldn’t be the only player anymore for vector and raster imaging???
