Before you go straight to downloading you need to be aware of something. After I downloaded I found out that a lot of my add ons did not work yet with this version. So if you don’t want to sacrifice your add ons I suggest waiting till the developers have a chance to update them. Other than that the interface looks amazing and I haven’t had any problems yet today. The one thing I love so for is the fact the favicon has it’s own area framed out. The interface fits in more with the apple/leopard look than the current firefox. I think it makes it more comfortable to work in now. I have to admit I use Safari 90% of the time because of that reason. The other 10% I use Firefox but pretty much because of the add ons that I can’t get for Safari. So if you want to download go to Mozilla’s developers ftp to download. Picture after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
A little late, but here is a new vector image for Valentine’s Day. I hope you can still use it since the holiday is so close. Read the rest of this entry »
Just wanted to let everyone know Istock Photo has a new vector of the month. They do this every month, and they also give away a free stock photo every week. Also, you do need to register with the site to be able to download.
Over at insanely great tees I found this really cool t-shirt. So I had to share it. They have some other really good tees also for all the mac lovers out there. (who isn’t?) Never mind don’t answer that. Check them out they are very simple, but genius. Almost like, why didn’t I think of that.
Out with the old in with the new. I love being a designer. Change is the one thing that remains constant in our field, and because of that it never gets boring. So I did some research looking at new designs that haven’t really got that much attention, but were still very good design. This is what I came up and if I am wrong oh well. Here is my list of 2008 trends.
Man what a month. It has been very busy trying to learn all the ins and outs of blogging. I still have a lot to learn though so with your help let’s make this next month even better. I have received some very valuable comments from my readers. I want more though, give me anything and everything to post about. I don’t care what it is, tell me about your grandma who just learned how to use photoshop, your boss who thinks he knows everything about design, I mean anything.
What’s next for February? Well, I am already working on a couple of vector files for download. I also have some textures in mind, that I can’t even wait to use. I know I have also promised some studio sessions so hopefully I can get that rolling. Whatever else will have a big part in what you guys and gals tell me you want.
I want to thank Bittbox again, they have helped spread thepixlpusher name to a lot of their readers and I am very grateful. I want to also thank you for reading and downloading. I know it is not much now but it will get there.I have placed a report card in the sidebar, tell me how I am doing.
Thanks ::pixlp::
The past week this subject has come up a handful of times, so I have decided that we should talk about it. I am going to try to keep my opinion out of the mix for many reasons. So for some of you who might not know what spec work is I will tell you. Spec work is basically designing something in hopes of compensation. Spec work can be offered in many different ways, but most of the time it is offered by small start up companies that just don’t have the budget to pay a big design firm for creative work. In order for them to get creative work they offer contests for the best design. Some cases they will offer money or prizes. This is where the arguments begin. I have been a graphic designer for awhile and had no clue that this type of work was called “spec work”.
So is spec work unethical? This is left to the designer to decide. Yes, The companies have a hand in this, but for right now lets leave them out of this. If you are a designer why would you let yourself design for nothing or free. “I am not, if I win I get 300 dollars” says the designer. The key words are “IF I WIN”. If you don’t win then you have let yourself work for free. Well who is this designer? Is this you? Many contend that the designers who enter are students or novice designers. Not surprisingly students want to get their feet wet and build their portfolio and the same goes with novice designers. If you are a student why would you not do this? You obviously need the money going to that big art institute that costs a lot. For the Novice designer it comes down to getting that last piece in your portfolio. It’s all starting to sound reasonable isn’t it.Wait until I throw this out there.
As you know this is a new blog and is growing. Well to keep growing I want to hear from the readers and designers. I know there are a lot of different design blogs and they all have a niche. What I want to know is what they are not offering designers so that I can give that to you. Whether that is tutorials on a specific subject, free vectors or brushes, or anything else that needs to be addressed in the design field. This is your chance to decide what pixlpusher should be about for designers. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks ::pixlp::
Design students are you looking for some extra cash? I was researching t-shirt design and I found that a lot of these websites sell work from everyday designers. That is if they choose your work. There are several ways to be compensated for your design, some give you money and others give you prizes. One of the first websites to start doing this was threadless.com and soon after with their success many others followed. To submit designs to threadless.com you need to login and go to the submit ideas page from there you will find a .zip file to download with all the specifications. Also if you do submit your work post it on the pixl showcase on flickr so that we might be able to vote for your design. Like I said earlier there are other websites also and they are:
If you have been under a rock this week you might not know about the updates to the iphone. The update that caught my eye was the app that lets you take websites and add an icon of that website to the springboard. So last night I looked everywhere to try and find out how to do this for Pixlpusher. Finally I found it on Apples developers site. Here it gives you specific directions on how to implement the icon on your root directory of your web server.
Hello everyone. This blog is for design students and designers. I will be posting tutorials, free stuff, and other need to know information. With that said I look forward to hearing from you and thanks for visiting. :: pixl p. ::
